This is a little background of the group
On July 17th, 2005, the retreat of SVD Priests, Brothers, DWC Vietnamese alumni, and current DWC Vietnamese students was organized at the Divine Word Retreat Center in Riverside. There were around 20 people attended. During the two days weekend retreat, all the participants have a chance to know each other and share the experience of their vocation. The retreat was successful and fascinating. Everybody was appreciated from what they gain in the retreat among the participants. These help them spiritually growth in their vocation. At the end of the retreat, a meeting was called to discuss the possibility of forming a group to continue to support one another in the spirit of the Divine Word Missionaries. There is a majority agreement among the members to form a group so we can continue to interact and keep in touch with one another to support each other in spiritual growth and to support the Divine Word Missionaries. From this a group named Divine Word Companion (Dong Hanh Ngoi Loi in Vietnamese) was formed. It was concluded that the member of the group is currently open to all SVD Vietnamese Priests and Brothers, DWC Vietnamese alumni, and current DWC Vietnamese students. The group will open the membership to other people in the future when the group has a strong foundation. There will be two gatherings throughout the year, one in Christmas and one in the summer, for all the members to know each other and continue to share the experience in their journey of faith and vocation.
It had been voted by all of the members that there will be a membership fee that would help the group in all the expenses which including the gatherings. Each member is asked to contribute one-hour wage every three months. It is optional amount of contribution for SVDs and current DWC students. Fee should be submitted quarterly in the month of March, June, September, and December. Please send your contribution to Mr. Michael Dang Ha 12101 Faye Ave. Garden Grove, CA 92840. Check pays to Michael Dang Ha and write Divine Word Companion on the memo line (at lower left of check). The current council members for 2006-2008 are Thienmy Nguyen as president, Kha Nguyen as vice-president, Dat Dinh as secretary, Dang Ha as Treasure and Toan Pham & Hanh Nguyen as Cook.
